Monday 21 September -The Chatelard Vineyards

The day started fine but some clouds built up around midday.  The sun burnt them away and we have had a hot but misty day.  It was a holiday today so many places were closed and it was generally quiet.  However the railway seemed to be operating at full bore.

We took the train up to Chatelard and had a picnic at the overlook with a great view of the chateau. From there it was all downhill through the vineyards and the small village of Tavel.  The climate here is quite mild.  There was a stand of tall bamboo trees and figs were ripening on the trees.

Another chateau that is visible from the Chatelard, also from the lake steamers.

From there it was a short walk down to the lake and we walked along the lake back to Montreux. The walk is really pleasant with a continuous line of flowerbeds, each of which is different.  This walk runs all the way to the Chateau de Chillon.

It's a tough job but someone has to do it.  Sauecisse Vaudois en croute, figs, tomatoes and cheese with a local wine - followed by Grand Marnier ice cream
