Monday 18 May - A Rain Day

Overheard in the Post Office "I dunno. We've won two World Wars and the World Cup and I still can't get my passport renewed here."

We were surprised to hear rain this morning.  The forecast had changed and rain was expected until midday.  We decided to postpone a trip to Bishops Castle and wait it out.  The rain stopped just after midday and we went out to catch the bus to Minsterley only to be caught in a heavy downpour.  We decided to postpone Minsterley and look for lunch which we found at the Boathouse.  We had a good view of the river and the ducks frolicking in the sun. The walk along the outside of the river bend, past the two boat houses was very pleasant and the greens and browns of the leaves were vivid in the clean air.
Abbey Foregate from the Greyfriars Bridge.  The abbey is in the centre
Tanners, the wine merchant, is in a beautiful building. It has become a destination of note because they stock a particularly good Sauvignon Blanc.
